Dad Update... And another update.....and a final update!

Here's the latest update on my dad :)

On Saturday, my dad's heart rate was under control and the fluid around his lungs was slowly going away. As of yesterday, he has no fluid on or around his lungs, praise the Lord! The doctors couldn't get his heart rate under control (beating at 140 bpm on average) so today, they are going to do Electrical Cardioversion to shock his heart back into normal sinus rhythm. He will be sedated through an IV and asleep during the procedure. The procedure is common for his type of heart problem and is often needed after an intense surgery like he went through last week. If the surgery is a success, he could go home today. If it's not successful, they will continue using medicines to try and control his heart rate until they can decide on another plan of action.

My uncle, my dad's brother, is a cardiologist at the Heart Hospital in Austin and feels confident that this will be a successful procedure on my dad. My uncle had a quadruple bypass a few months ago and had to have Cardioversion after his surgery to get his heart back on track and now, he is doing very well and back to practicing. These Robinson men have strong hearts I tell ya!

I'll update another post after the procedure is done, this afternoon. Please pray that my dad's heart breaks through and gets the shock of a lifetime :) and that he can get back on his feet, get home and start feeling better.

UPDATE as of 3:45 on Monday....

The Cardioversion was not a success. Since the procedure, my dad's surgeon & cardiologist have come to the conclusion that his heart is reacting with a high heart rate b/c it was in such high rhythms before the surgery, that it hasn't had time yet to heal from the previous condition and accept the surgery. His heart needs to form scar tissue in order to know full well if the surgery was a success and with it not even being a week out, this hasn't had time to happen. SO..... he is going to go home this evening, along w/ some meds that will help control his heart rate for the time being. His doctors feel that with him resting, taking the meds and being at home, they think his heart rate will decrease and go back into normal sinus rhythm.

Please pray that my dad will heal through rest and comfort and be able to get off the meds he really hates to take, in no time. I know God is keeping his marathon racing heart in his hands.

UPDATE as of 8:15 p.m. Monday

My dad is out of the hospital and resting at home! He sounded great when I talked to him earlier and was very happy to be home. He said his doctors gave him lots of hope that being at home and taking the medicines he's been taking for the last 12 hours or so will be effective and help. Even though the cardioversion shock didn't work, it doesn't mean his surgery was not successful. They will watch him and over the next couple of months, they'll be able to tell if it was a complete success or not. After all he's been through, he's still in great spirits and comical as ever :)

We're all very thankful for the great family & friends that have been sending up prayers for my dad, JR as Brandon calls him :) We can't thank you enough for everything you've all done!
